AU Deals: Switch Mario Parties Limbo to New Lows, Dragon's Dogma 2 and FF XVI Price Chopped Severely, and More!
There are weeks where the shelves feel barren, and then there are days like today where my prestigious wishlist cries out with its siren's song of savings. What I've got for you now is my usual eclectic blend of iconic franchises, cult indies, and blockbusters that I’d happily revisit. From RPG epics to pixel-perfect heartbreakers, there's some top-tier for every taste.
This Day in Gaming 🎂
In retro news, I’m using the flaming wreck of my bike after a botched landing to light a 27-candle mudcake baked for Motocross Madness. A rowdy dirt-racing experiment, this wasn’t just about racing laps so much as it was about flinging yourself across ridiculous hills and embracing glorious ragdoll bails. It was messy, silly, and endlessly replayable for '98-era me.
I still remember firing it up on a beige desktop, joystick in hand, and laughing at the sheer freedom of its physics. No other racer at the time let you take a detour straight off a cliff just to see what would happen. Motocross Madness laid the groundwork for offbeat stunt racers, and I genuinely believe it had the best "dear player, you've reached the edge of our map" mechanic in gaming. (Think: a shotgun sound effect, then you get hoiked backwards by an invisible trebuchet.)
On Switch, Mario Party Superstars deserves a revisit because it sneakily remasters N64-era boards, complete with all the chaotic dice rolls of my childhood. And Celeste remains one of the most meaningful platformers I’ve ever played, where its mountain climb doubles as a metaphor for resilience.
Mario Party Superstars (-20%) - A$64 A throwback collection of classic boards and minigames that fans of the N64 and GameCube era will love. Perfect for family chaos or nostalgic couch competition.
Super Mario Party Jamboree (-20%) - A$64 A new entry that shakes up the party formula with fresh boards and modes. Great for newcomers or Mario Party lifers who want something punchy and modern.
Crisis Core Ff7 Reunion (-24%) - A$64.50 A remade PSP classic tying directly into Final Fantasy VII’s story. If you’re curious about Zack Fair or need more Cloud-adjacent lore, this is a stylish RPG worth your time.
Celeste (-75%) - A$7.50 A brutally precise indie platformer wrapped in a heartfelt narrative about perseverance. Excellent soundtrack, clever level design, and one of the best bargains in indie gaming.
Ultimate Chicken Horse (-55%) - A$9.80 Chaotic multiplayer platformer where you build traps and obstacles while racing your mates. Great for laughs, less great for friendships.
Over on Series X, Alien: Isolation is still the most authentic Alien game, with the devs reusing the 1979 film’s analogue sound library to ratchet up tension. Remnant II takes its Souls-inspired gunplay further, and I loved how it rewards co-op experimentation.
Alien: Isolation (-80%) - A$11.90 I'm going to seriously break rank here by saying this is still one of the tensest survival horror games ever made. I'm replaying this after the first 2 eps of Alien: Earth. Brilliant.
Persona 5 Tactica (-73%) - A$26.10 A tactical spin-off of Persona 5 with grid-based combat and familiar Phantom Thieves charm. It’s lighter in tone but still full of great music and slick style.
Remnant Ii (-47%) - A$39.90 A challenging co-op shooter-meets-soulslike filled with deadly bosses and procedural worlds. Grab this if you love punishing encounters and the thrill of loot hunting.
Wild Hearts (-86%) - A$14.90 EA’s attempt at a Monster Hunter rival, featuring massive beasts and inventive crafting mechanics. Surprisingly solid for the price, especially if you’re into hunting games.
Dragon's Dogma 2 (-55%) - A$48.50 Capcom’s sprawling fantasy RPG with dynamic combat and a cult following. Pawns make it stand apart from other RPGs, and this price is strong for a recent release.
Xbox One
Batman: Arkham Col. (-87%) - A$10.60 Three Arkham titles bundled into one sharp package. If you’ve never glided across Gotham as Rocksteady’s Batman, this is basically essential superhero gaming.
Elden Ring (-21%) - A$67 FromSoftware’s open-world masterpiece. This is the cheapest way to be repeatedly humbled by bosses while exploring one of the most imaginative fantasy landscapes ever made.
Resident Evil 7 (-60%) - A$9.90 A terrifying return-to-form for Resident Evil with first-person chills and a creepy swamp mansion. Best played with the lights off and headphones on.
PS5 is stacked too. Hogwarts Legacy may divide opinions, but roaming its intricately built castle was pure wish fulfilment for me. Final Fantasy XVI refreshed the series with combat crafted by a Devil May Cry veteran, and it shows in every flashy fight.
Hogwarts Legacy (-75%) - A$27.40 A huge, open-world Wizarding World RPG set in the 1800s. Explore Hogwarts, learn spells, and dive into magical lore. It’s the cheapest way to live your wizarding fantasy.
God of War: Ragnarok (-29%) - A$77.90 Kratos and Atreus close out the Norse saga in this acclaimed blockbuster. Incredible combat, heartfelt storytelling, and some of Sony Santa Monica’s best set pieces ever.
Final Fantasy XVI - A$47.10 A darker, Game of Thrones-inspired take on the Final Fantasy formula with political intrigue and kaiju-scale battles. Strong storytelling and cinematic presentation make it one of Square Enix’s boldest entries.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure (-27%) - A$68.50 A delightful 3D platformer starring LittleBigPlanet’s mascot. Play solo or co-op, it’s packed with creativity and fun level design that feels great for all ages.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance (-55%) - A$44.90 An expanded edition of Atlus’ dark demon-collecting RPG. Tough battles, moral choices, and atmospheric Tokyo wastelands make this one for hardcore RPG fans.
PS4
Far Cry 5 + New Dawn Bndl. (-85%) - A$21.70 Two massive Ubisoft sandboxes in one cheap package. Expect cultist drama, colourful villains, and plenty of explosions in Montana and beyond.
Wreckfest Ps5 ed. (-65%) - A$19.20 Smash-up derby racing at its chaotic best. Physics-driven crashes and destructible cars make this a must if you enjoy the dirtier side of motorsport.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (-75%) - A$22.40 Rockstar’s western epic still sets the standard for open-world immersion. The slow burn pays off with unforgettable characters and a breathtakingly detailed frontier.
On PC, Disco Elysium – The Final Cut is still the smartest RPG I’ve touched, with inner voices that argue like a deranged parliament. And Far Cry 6 gets a lift thanks to Giancarlo Esposito’s dictator role, chewing scenery like it’s a delicacy.
Far Cry 6 (-80%) - A$17.90 Ubisoft’s latest revolution shooter. Expect charismatic villains, colourful chaos, and a whole lot of freedom to blow things up.
Tony Hawk's 3 + 4 (-25%) - A$56.20 The Birdman returns in this updated skateboarding revival. Great for old-school fans or anyone who wants a slick trick system to master again.
Black Mesa Def. (-80%) - A$5.90 A lovingly remade version of Half-Life 1. Updated visuals and smoother mechanics make this a bargain-priced nostalgia trip worth taking.
Tb Velocityone Flightdeck (-18%) - A$573 A serious piece of kit for flight sim enthusiasts. Turtle Beach’s cockpit hardware is immersive, durable, and priced well below RRP here.
Persona 5 Royal (-63%) - A$35.10 A definitive take on one of the best JRPGs ever. Stylish visuals, turn-based battles, and an unforgettable cast make it an all-time classic.
Disco Elysium – The Final Cut (-75%) - A$14.20 Narrative-heavy detective RPG where choices matter more than combat. Unique skill system and sharp writing make it an indie masterpiece.
