Here Are the Best SSD Deals for PlayStation 5 During Amazon's October Prime Day

SSD prices have been dropping fairly dramatically in the past few months. This is especially good news for PlayStation 5 gamers looking for an opportunity to upgrade the storage on their consoles. During Amazon's October Prime Day Sale which kicks off today, you can pick up a 2TB SSD, which will triple your PS5's total storage capacity, for just a tad over $100. If you've got the budget, 4TB models are also on sale for as low as $200. All the SSDs I've listed below are guaranteed to be PS5 compatible and most are drop-in ready with pre-installed heatsinks.

4TB Samsung 990 Evo Plus SSD

The 990 Evo Plus is Samsung' newest PCIe Gen 4 SSD. This is an excellent drive for both your gaming PC and your PlayStation 5 console at an economical price. It exceeds Sony's minimim speed recommendation for the PS5, boasting sequential speeds of up to 7,250 read and 6,300MB/s write. The main difference between this drive and the more expensive 990 Pro is that this is a DRAM-less drive. The Samsung 990 Evo Plus does not have a preinstalled heatsink, so you'll need to add your own for about $7.

2TB and 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSDs

If you're looking for the absolute best PCIe Gen 4 SSD on the market, then look no further than the Samsung 990 Pro. It's still considered one of the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSDs available and a great choice for your gaming PC's boot drive. It's PS5 compatible, although technically overkill. All components are manufactured in-house, including the Samsung Pascal controller and 7th gen TLC NAND flash chips. Also, unlike every other SSD on this list, the 990 Pro has DRAM cache, which offers better write performance. Although gamers shouldn't notice any performance difference either way, it's still the preferred type of SSD to use as a boot drive for your PC.

2TB and 8TB Lexar Play / NM790 SSDs

The Lexar NM790 is another popular choice for PS5 gamers. This is another DRAM-less PCI-E 4x4 drive with transfer speeds of up to 7,400MB/s read and 6,500MB/s write. At least on paper, it's faster than the Crucial P310 and the 2TB variant is a few dollars cheaper as well. This particular model also comes equipped with a pre-installed heatsink. I myself know plenty of PS5 gamers who use this exact SSD with no issues whatsoever.

The Lexar Play is special because, well, it boasts a massive amount of storage and the PS5 is compatible with 8TB SSDs. Not everyone will be able to put down $500 for a storage upgrade, but if you can afford it, you'll never run out of space again. The Lexar Play is identical to the NM790 in hardware, but with a different heatsink design and the fact that it's available in a higher 8TB capacity.

2TB and 4TB Crucial P310 SSDs

The P310 is a very fast DRAM-less QLC-based PCI-E 4x4 SSD drive with transfer speeds of up to 7,100MB/s read and 6,000MB/s write, which easily passes Sony's recommended minimum requirement of 5,5000MB/s. Both 2TB and 4TB models include pre-installed heatsinks.
